It's possible that some folks on this list might be interested. Feel

Hi all,

I attempted to update the agenda to have the drafts actually on the
agenda, but the materials manager keeps spitting up on the file. No
idea why.

Anyway, here's what I tried to upload.

Agenda for WEIRDS BoF, IETF 82
 2011-11-10

    0. Agenda bashing.
    1. A very quick review of the background.
    2. A pointer to the drafts about actual deployments, but not
         discussion of the drafts.
    3. A very quick overview of the then-extant requirements draft.
            (draft-kucherawy-weirds-requirements-01)

The above items should take no more than 30 minutes. The remaining
time is nearly 2 hours; if we don't exhaust discussion in that time,
it is a testament to wills.

    4. Questions for discussion (at least 30 mins):

         a. Is this a problem to be solved?

         b. Is the problem statement in the proposed charter clear
         enough?

         c. Why isn't this IRISbis?

All hello,

I want to report that my presentation to the Antiphishing Working Group on =
the RESTful work (largely based on the USENIX ;login article) was very posi=
tively received, as in several people asked about the timeframe when they c=
an expect to begin to use it. The general feeling expressed was that struct=
ured data is welcomed, and data tagged indicating language/character set is=
 an attractive way forward.

I had some hallway discussions about ways to share some development effort =
to do implement/demonstrate some additional features beyond the initial pro=
totyping and deployment. =20

I've sent APWG members the WEIRDS mailing list information (info page, arch=
ives). Hopefully we will see some new participation. =

Yes, great news that you are experimenting.=20

Steve Sheng, Francisco Arias and I are working with some folks on ICANN's S=
SAC to pull together an initial set of data objects from ICANN's registrar =
accreditation agreement (RAA), EPP, and ICANN's registrar escrow XML (curre=
ntly http://www.icann.org/en/escrow/registrar-escrow-08nov01.htm#xmlformat)=
.=20

Optimistically, we could have a data model and xml schema in a month or so.=
Of course, it would be a straw man and subject to consideration by a broad=
er ICANN community. Adoption of the schema is a policy matter for gTLDs an=
d ccTLDs would decide amongst themselves or individually to adopt it. Clear=
ly the optimal situation is for all TLDs and registrars to employ a common =
schema.

Dave,

Thank you for the link, very interesting. I can see some =
intersections (and differences) between the domain and the number world =
of whois.

For the organization, are you considering a subset of vcard =
(RFC6350)?

I think this is also a question for others considering using =
whois rest services as producers and consumers of information.

Regards,
.as

Hello SM and all,=20

FYI, regarding SAC 051, please find below the recent ICANN board resolution=
:

http://www.icann.org/en/minutes/resolutions-28oct11-en.htm#5

...=20

Resolved (2011.10.28.26), the Board hereby acknowledges the receipt of SAC
051, and thanks SSAC and other contributors for their efforts in the
creation of the report.

Resolved (2011.10.28.27), the Board directs staff to produce, in
consultation with the community, a roadmap for the coordination of the
technical and policy discussions necessary to implement the recommendations
outlined in SAC 051.

Resolved (2011.10.28.28), the Board directs staff to forward SAC 051 to
ICANN's Advisory Committees and Supporting Organizations for their advice,
if any, with regards to implementing the SSAC recommendations, and to
forward SAC 051 to the Whois Review Team.

We have not started implementing the Board resolutions yet, but if you have
any thoughts / suggestions, feel free to email/talk to me and Francisco.

Kind regards,=20

Dear colleagues,

I uploaded a new agenda to the meeting materials (and included it
below).

I have been in touch with the Meetecho people, and we will apparently
have at least some support from them for remote participants. It
won't be two-way voice, though, so you'll need a jabber client at least.

BoFs really need complete minutes. Does anyone want to volunteer in
advance to help by taking the minutes?

Best,

A

Agenda for WEIRDS BoF, IETF 82
 2011-11-15

    0. Agenda bashing.
    1. Some review of the background
    2. Short presentations on what people actually built
    3. Short overview of requirements draft and issues in proposed charter

The above items should take no more than 30 minutes. The remaining
time is nearly 2 hours; if we don't exhaust discussion in that time,
it is a testament to wills.

    4. Questions for discussion (at least 30 mins):

         a. Is this a problem to be solved?

         b. Is the problem statement in the proposed charter clear
         enough?

         c. Should this build more on IRIS? Why or why not?

         d. Is there reasonable prospect for deployment?

         e. Is one protocol for “registry data” the right approach?

Sorry for any confusion that caused: the date there is actually just a

Hi all,

As I mentioned before, we will have some support from Meetecho for
remote participants in tomorrow's BoF session. The Meetecho support
people (who've been very accommodating) told me they'll be sending
something to the mailing list with detailed instructions.

The IETF meeting remote participation page at
http://www.ietf.org/meeting/82/remote-participation.html gives some
other information about remote participation.

I'd also like to remind people that there is a current work project
open to develop a specification for a Remote Participation Service.
Paul Hoffman has the contract to do this development. The
announcement is found at
https://www.ietf.org/ibin/c5i?mid=6&rid=49&gid=0&k1=933&k2=60385&tid=1321333032.
I imagine that Paul would find feedback about your experiences if you
want to share them. I haven't seen a post from him on the general
IETF discussion list about where to send him feedback, so please watch
for that.

Best regards,

Andrew

Hello all,

we (LACNIC) have put online a proof-of-concept RESTful WHOIS for you
to play with. It's really rough around the edges but we wanted to put
it online ahead of your BoF in Taipei.

We have also drafted a quick I-D-esque document which you can use to
access the system:

http://www.labs.lacnic.net/drupal/sites/default/files/draft-lacnic-weirds-restwhois-01.pdf

Looking forward to your comments,

Carlos

We discovered some typos, you can try:

http://restwhois.labs.lacnic.net/restfulwhois/ip/2001:13c7:7001::5
http://restwhois.labs.lacnic.net/restfulwhois/operator/UY-LACN-LACNIC/

The xml structure is mirroring the whois, but that was just for =
a quick start.

Just wondering, as I don't see it in the doc, and am not familiar with the =
preferred semantics in "RESTlike" applications -

What's the expected response in case of errors?

For example, if the query is for a non-existent entity, would the server:

a) return a "200 OK" with some form of error returned in
the response body in the appropriate data format, i.e.:

    {"error": "no such domain"}
=20
  or,

b) return a "404 Not Found" error with an unspecified response body

Dear all,

the full recording (synchronized video, audio, slides and jabber room)
of today's WEIRDS BOF is available.

You can watch it by either clicking the proper link on the remote
participation page
(http://www.ietf.org/meeting/82/remote-participation.html#Meetecho), or
by directly accessing the following URL:
http://www.meetecho.com/ietf82/recordings

For the chair(s): please feel free to put the link to the recording in
the minutes, if you think this might be useful.

In case of problems with the playout, just drop an e-mail to
ietf-support@meetecho.com.

Cheers,
the Meetecho Team
